THE CALIFORNIA 25 CENT TAX POLL

A poll was conducted by Fairbank, Maslin, Maulin and Associates through a telephone survey of California registered voters June 28-July 2, 2008. The sample population was 700 and the margin of error +/- 3.7 %.

According to the poll, 58% of Californians oppose a proposed 25 cent tax on plastic bags. More than two-thirds of those polled in Los Angeles and San Diego oppose the tax.

THE SEATTLE PUBLIC UTILITIES POLL

Seattle Public Utilities commissioned a public opinion survey in 2007 to measure public sentiment about a plastic bag ban or fee.

63% opposed banning plastic bags.
56% opposed a fee on plastic bags.
74% of those who always used plastic bags opposed a fee.
89% supported a voluntary approach.
